Ridiculous Predicament Finance Car Reported Stolen PLEASE HELP BILL OF £10000?

I have gotten myself in a very odd pickle and I really do not know what to do, it all began in July 2011 when I purchased a car at carcraft via finance, I had paid an initial deposit, and made the first payment on time, 2months later I was driving from London to Newcastle when I was stopped by traffic police who told me the car was reported as stolen and repossed to return back to the finance company so I was left stranded in Manchester after having my car taken away.(i am insured and legal btw) Just to add I was not arrested by the police which to me is odd i always thought if ur driving a stolen car then you will be arrested without question. So I get intouch with the finance company who inform me that the car has been advertised to sell online, I inform them that it wasnt me and I never have advertised the car online before and even when the date it was posted I was in hong kong. I ring them daily for roughly 2 weeks to see what is going on as Im without a car = no work for me, they refuse to answer any questions and give me the generic reply of "we cannot discuss this matter with you at present" Fast forward two months still without a car, still no help from the finance company or word I receive a letter stating that the car had been advertised to sell on gumtree and that they have cancelled my agreement with them, sold off the car and they are now demanding the full value of the vehicle £10000 Im really stuck and baffle to be honest I dont know what to do I already lost my job from having my car taken and now this. What is really strange is that how can I legally sell a car without a LOG BOOK? until this day I never received a log book and it wasnt me who posted online but im being victimized. Also to add all my personal belongins was inside the vehicle when it was taken from me that I still havent received back. such as my sat nav, hats, clothes, books, cds, sunglasses etc etc. Every time I think about this I ask myself is this a joke? but when reality it makes me sink to the floor with worry. I was told to seek a solictor but since im currently looking for a job and claming JSA i do not think my weekly budget of £62 can cover a lawyers fee.
