What is the difference of words between security and safety?
I saw some finance articles utilize the words of "security" and "safety" in a same sentence, so, I think they must have different meanings, can you show me the difference?

- security in finance - Finance: Certificate evidencing ownership of equity (stock), ownership of a debt obligation payable (bond), and the rights to ownership implied by options and warrants. Securities, when pledged as collateral, may be used to obtain bank financing. safety - protection from harm from answers.com
- security is the act of protecting, safety is freedom from danger
- As the others have said, they can have slightly different meanings, but they can also be used interchangably. For example, instead of saying "That dumb person ate too much stupid food and got sick" we could say "That stupid person ate too much dumb food and got sick."
