1. Dave Ramsey has a series called "financial peace university" that is taught for a nominal fee all across the US. You really can do your own research on these subjects ... spending less than you make and saving for retirement are pretty simple concepts, the only specialized part is learning the differences in retirement accounts and other tax shelters. Check out www.daveramsey.com for good advice and reference material on personal finance and basic investing.
2. The "Dummies" series of books are excellent starters. "Personal Finance For Dummies" and "Investing For Dummies" are the ones to start with.
