finance about

Teen girls (13-19): How many of you are interested in learning about politics/world issues and finance?

I'd even maybe go up to age 23 with this. I ask because we are stereotyped to not care about more than boys, fashion, and shopping. That's not the case for me. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a boyfriend, accessorizing, and definitely shopping, but that's not my idea of all there is in the world. I like to learn about what's going on in my world. I know there's a bigger world out here than Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue. I like to know about how business and finance are unfolding. I'm more of a politics/gov't girl though. By the way, I'm 17. Oh, and if you're interested in learning and you like hearing about women who are involved in these types of things, I highly recommend BeE magazine to you. It's a women's magazine devoted to politics, lifestyle, and finance. It's a fairly recent addition to magazines.

  1. nope not really dance church and shopping are my things <3
  2. um...i don't really know. i know there's more important things other than boys and fashion but world issue? i don't know maybe someday ?
  3. um...yah i mean i totally luv shoppin, fashion, boys, ect. but im also interested in whats happening w/ the world! for example in a week or so im goin on a mission trip through my church to help less fortunate people and in a year or so i might be goin on a mission trip 2 africa! i read usually scan the newspaper everyday and my family (especially at family gatherings) usually keep me up 2 date w/ politics cuz they argue about them all the time! lol
  4. well, i'm not nessecarily wanting 2 learn all about whats going on, because some things i know are many things that some people should kno like murder and stuff like that but i would like to know about whats going on in the country and the world besides knowin about Bush I'm not really into like shopping, well mayb i am lol but i still dont like being stereotyped as not caring about other things and how woman are just here to make babies and cook and clean
  5. i'm more into going shopping, hanging with friends, and going to church on Sunday's Glad to help!
  6. Its great that you are interested in more than boys, shopping and beauty. Girls ARE stereotyped that way but I think lots of young boys are the same way. At most, their parents will get them involved in sports or music. Anyway I have a daughter who's only 1.5 right now but I am wondering if the magazine you are talking about has a "younger" version for little girls.
  7. yeah right, i hate that stuff
  8. I'm very interested in learning more. But I always feel so intimidated. Every time I try to learn more and then try to talk about it people just don't take me seriously and look at me like I'm unintelligent. I hate it.
  9. Even at age 18, I was very interested in politics. In fact, that is the year I chose to take on a Political Science minor. I'm 21 now, and recently interned with a television news station. I enjoy politics, and have jokingly referred to the 2008 election as "my superbowl". I'm going to travel home from college to vote in the political primaries in my hometown. You can bet election night that I will be sitting in front of the television, if I'm not employed in a job that requires me to do so already.
  10. I'm 21, and I'm kind of like you. I'm very much into politics, world events, etc. I like to look cute, I like new clothes, but given the option of going to the mall, or having a deep intellectual debate...I'd take the debate. I think the stereotype young women are prone to is really sick. There is far more to life than fashion! Thanks for the magazine suggestion, I've never heard of that and I will check that out :)
  11. i am actually really interested in world issues and world politic. not really with finance but yea im taking a class in world politics next year when i'll be a junior at a college level. im only 15 and lots of other girls would say that i am crzy to even think about becoming a meteorologist which studies the weather and the atmosphere. and no i am not gonna be on t.v telling the weather! im just gonna be a researcher and stuff. where can i get that magazine that you talked about?
  12. I definitely agree with u ! I think that is very good for women this days to get informed about what is happening in our community and in our world! That is what has helped usbe mor equal to men and have the same opportunities in life as them! I like shopping and all, but I think that learning about what is happening around u is more important than that! I am definitely more interested in learning about world issues and many other things that happen around me, I know I am young, but I thin that that is what differences me from gils my same age, because is like they don't care about anything else but fashion, guys and what is happenind with their relationships! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!! =)
  13. We don't care because there is nothing we can do about it or change it! (And plus I think the hot guy is more interesting)I'm a straight A student so I think I know what is best
  14. actually, yes. i've been told that im a very well rounded girl. not only am i involved in sports, im in all advanced classes. and i've had a boyfriend for eleven months now. I have my opinions on the government, and being thirteen limits some of my knowledge and understanding of the way our government is organized and works, i am open to the thought of learning about the possibilites. And as for personal finance, i was in a enrichment class where we learned all about how to run your own business. in my opinion the stereotype, has become ridiculous and in so cases, quite offensive.
  15. I thought I was thee only one these days. Everybody(especially girls) seem to be overly OBSESSED with celebrities that have been a few dumb chick flicks but wear all the latest designer trends. Why not be obsessed with somebody who has actually made a difference and bettered themselves from circumstances. There's nothing wrong with looking good but when it gets to a point where you will spend thousands of dollars on something you will wear once or twice, and where it gets to the point when that's all you care about there is definitely a problem. I'd rather learn about the world, politics, and cultures than the latest fashion trends that will be popular one day and will go away the next. I will start reading the magazine BeE that you recommended since I've never heard of it. It's nice to know someone who has similar feelings told these kind of things. Thanks for this question. and by the way I am 14, 15 in December, and that's young but I do know what is more important; and less important in the world. Especially being a multi-ethnic teen who doesn't fall into one of the "regular" ethnicities at a young age I've had to learn about the world around me without being suched into what the media says about me.
  16. I definently try to be informed of world issues and politics. In fact, the only magazine subscription I have is for TIME magazine. I think it's important to know about what is going on in the world and I also think it's important for girls to break the sereotype of only caring about boys and fashion.
  17. i am intrested and agree with you because there is more to life than shopping and boys and fashion im not saying that i hate them but there are more important things in life that we should be caring about. i think that not only 13-19 year olds are like this but most woman are in to fashion and ect now a days insted of finances and world issues. theres alot of things that happen that are in different towns, states, and even countries that we should know about and half the time people dont even know about it. thank you for bring this up because maybe you might get more people to learn about politics/world issues and finance. by the way i am 13!
  18. Yah I Totally agree with u!! I love shopping, Boys, gymnastics and everything but I am more concerned in our world and what is happening, Like Darfur ( in africa). Im not a huge fan of politics but im still interested. im REALLY concerened about enviromental issues and Global Warming. Im very scared for my future...... Thanks for putting this out. Because i hate it when people judge and think that we can't think the same way and have to just think shopping, boys etc. are the most important things in the world! Thx :)
  19. Wow, reading all these answers are very depressing. Yes! I am very interested in politics, and was so pissed off that no one explained the Alberto Gonzalez issue with me, that I researched it myself. I listen to NPR, and wish I knew more about finances. But then again, I love shopping, and being on the internet. Boys are fun too. I'm 15. ;) I'll check out the magazine. Thanks for the referral!
  20. I'm interested in politics/world issues and finance!!! And yes I am a girl and I am 15 years old!!! I totally agree with you we are stereotyped to not care about anything more than boys, fashion and shopping...not that any of those ideas sound bad. Thanks for the recommended magazine!!
  21. I'm 16 and I'm definitely interested in boys shopping, magazines, etc. I really hate politics, but i really care about health care, world problems and people in general. For example global warming, HIV/Aids in Africa, world hunger, preventable diseases etc. I don't think i have to be interested in politics to be interested in the world.. so yeah... and there are a lot of girls that also care about this type of thing.
  22. i not only interested in fashion , i am interested in world religions and cultures and sports of course
  23. im not real big into some most of that stuff but some of i find interesting. if its woth thinking about i will. my history teacher had us do current events everyday and that kinda made me interested in world events. but my things are God, my boyfriend, friends and music.
  24. i hate that i have learned about problems in the world like darfur. but once i find out about somthing like that i instantly get curious and search it up. then i beg my parents to donate and it goes in a circle like that for every thing i learn about. but i also love those "normal" girl things like boys. (elijah woods is all mine) oh im 13. and i always keep in mind about others in the world while in front off people so i make sure im not spoiled or attitude-ish. i absolutly HATE politics. i just dont get it... is bush repulican or democratic? wat is democratic anyways?!?!? and is paris hilton famous for something?? i hear more about her than Bush
  25. i'm not really into politics or business... i'm into studying history and religion.. i'm 20.. hrmmm..
