Do I understand how to get into medical school correctly...?

I want to get a bachelor degree in something other then biology, chemistry, etc., to set me apart from all the other people. I was thinking a bachelor degree in business, finance, or technology since I'm good at it. But if I get one of those degrees, how do I meet my required science courses for medical school? Do I just take them on their own? Can I take them while I'm getting the other degree...can someone explain this please? This works to get into med school right?

  1. Your best bet is to contact the medical school in your area. Talk to the dean of admissions.....They will be your best source of info
  2. While you are taking your mjaor requirements, you can also take the premed reqs too. http://www.pre-med.info
  3. Yes, you are understanding the process correctly. But reverse your thinking a bit and you'll understand how you can complete your pre-med courses. Look up the curricula of the different majors that interest you and you'll see that there are requirements that are not directly related to that major. Odds are, the pre-med courses will fulfill those requirements, so you won't be detracting from the pursuit of your major by taking these courses nor will you be adding additional time. You may know this, but it needs to be said: Although med schools prefer students with a diverse background, the emphasis in the pre-req courses and the MCAT score is greater for the non-science majors.
