- Start college as undeclared.. take a few finance and political science classes, see which one you like more. Declare that one your major. Then if you want, make the other one your minor.
- choose a major that you enjoy, and at which you will excell. Grades and LSAT scores are what matter most in law school admissions, and not necessarily the major.
- Yeah, your major is not all that important when you get ready to apply for law school . . . and a background in either area will be helpful when you start learning the law. . . do what you like.
- Choose the one that challenges you to excel. Or you can double-major. I majored in political science and philosophy. Both were very helpful in law school for me. Political science teaches you about political theory, government structure, and history. If you like politics, you may want to practice in an area like voter access or civil rights, or you may want to be a politician, many of whom are lawyers. My friend majored in finance before law school. His undergrad education gave him an advantage in classes like International Finance, Corporate Finance, Corporations etc. He is graduating this year, and just got a job in a financial firm in NYC with a starting salary of $165,000. Take some of both classes and see what interests you. What you learn in undergrad can be extremely helpful in law school.
