How come life skills are not taught? e.g How to manage your finances , health and well being?

- it would be useful, wouldn't it ? Maybe they expect us to learn these things at home.
- I don't know, I keep wondering about the same thing. It seems more important than many of the other things they teach at school, yet it's never on the schedule. Edit: idea, why not start your own course, if you are still at school? "Extracurricular activity" or what is it called? Could be fun.
- They are taught sometimes. I was a life skills teacher. Well, it was a volunteer job with foster kids, but it was still life skills being taught. Do you need help with something? If so email me! I'll see if i have any ideas for you!
- Because then you would not become a wage slave so easily. Young people amass debt in college or university and so become part of the proletariat and easily manipulated by fear of economic crisis such as unemployment. The system has worked for years and will continue to do so, no one is completely free.
- I thought the subject of 'home economics' is being taught at elementary level schools - perhaps, you are not paying that much attention. I do know that health and well being is being taught at nursery level.
- I worked at a place where a class like that was taught!! It is called Family Life Seminar and teaches life skills like budgeting, organization and nutrition. It was put on by Parkview Hospital and Habitat for Humanity. If you have either of those associations in your area, ask them. Or try your county's Youth Services Bureau, it was part of their classes they provided for the community. Don't get me wrong, it SHOULD be taught in schools, but it isn't at least not in my area anyways.
- They are! In England it has various names, PSHCE.
- life skills should be taught in school. first aid should be taught at a very early age. when i was in secondary school males and females had to do parenting classes/needlework/woodwork/cookery etc. i know times have changed-but lifeskills are always needed.
- The point of it being a life skill is that we have to learn it ourselves, through live, no one can teach you the best way to handle your life.
- Skills are inheritted or inbourn. They can be developed /refined by training/education mostly.Managing health, finance, well being etc there are many books and by reading you can manage health and finance. There are further financial/investment consultants to supplement your skills/learning.So much software is also available in these lines. So do not worry.Henry Ford was able to manage a carfactory without formal training or knowledge of engineering or finance.
- These 'skills' are soon picked up after you finish school, and what better way to learn than from personal experience?
- How about business math and accounting? Health would be science and biology? Well being would be psychiatry and social studies? Of course, I learned by experiencing life. Up and down up and down up and down. Get it?
