  1. by proving to a judge that it is neccessary
  2. go to your social security office and tell them you are not happy with your payee.. it is a good idea to know someone else you can trust...they can appoint you a payee but i would rather have someone i know myself...or maybe they will let you take over being responsible for your own check....
  3. First, know why a payee was appointed in the first place. Do you want a payee removed because they are doing a bad job; or because your circumstances have changed and you no longer need one. If it is because they are doing a bad job or you can't stand them personally, and so it is a cause for stress for you--make certain you have witnesses to their behavior and an alternate person who is willing to take on the job with you when you go to court. Otherwise the judge will just continue your case until you show proof. If your circumstances have changed and you no longer need a payee, bring a statement from your doctor saying so and ask the Judge to remove the need for the payee because . . . . . Once again, provide the judge with written proof you have no further need of a payee. Best wishes for your independence.
  4. you have to file an appeal to become your own payee, just go down to the local ssi office.
