how can i get financial aid if my parents havent filed?

my parents both have not filed their taxes, so how can i get financial aid by myself. im only 19 years old and i honestly do not know what to do. i've tried to enroll aand get financial aid but it didnt work out. told me my mom made too much to not file her taxes. so if my mom does not file, am i basically screwed until i turn 24?

  1. Call the financial aid officer and see if there are any forms that separate you from your parents as far as financial aid is concerned. you should not be punished for your parents' decision to either file late or not file at all.

  3. You may be out of luck this year as far as grants and stuff are concerned but that may not apply to student loans. Next year you just need to file your own taxes and make sure no one else claims you on theirs. I used to work in an admissions office. Go there and they usually have books of scholarships and grants available. Also talk to the financial aid counselors to make sure you do everything right next year. Good luck.
