- Then don't fly with them. They can basically do what they want
- Airlines can do whatever they want in terms of charging. Weight is an important issue for aircraft. With the high cost of fuel many industries are doing whatever they can to offset the cost.
- I think it should depend on the route. Some routes like routes to the Domincan republic are so out of control with bags they have to limit how many passengers they can take because those dominicans pack their entire house in there - and there have been weight and balance issues - severe ones. so yes - but i think it should depend on the route.
- Would you rather have cheaper airfares, and only be able to check 1 bag....or higher airfares and 2 bags? The cost of fuel is so high these days, it makes it difficult for the airlines. Think of how much weight will not be on the plane, and how much less fuel it will use....for example: an Airbus that seats 138 passengers. If this rule keeps 1/4 of the people from bringing a second bag, at approx. 40lbs...that is 1,380 lbs not on the aircraft. Let's say another 1/4 of those people opt to bring a second bag, and pay the fee. That is $862.50. Multiply this times the number of flights an airline has in 1 given day....it's quite a big savings for the airline, as well as some good revenue if people opt to pay for the 2nd bag. And let's face it, an airline can't continue without revenue.
- Apart from cost, it makes things much quicker for handlers. Everyone can get on and collect their bags faster this way.
- Fairness has nothing to do with it; they're a business, and can make any profit-making business decisions they want.
- I had no idea that one luggage is a big factor for the airline. The article said that it could save the company 136 million dollar (if i recalled that correctly). I weigh about 115 lbs and the average weight of passengers is around 160 lbs; now should I be getting a discount whenever I travel with United (according to their logic, I am saving them jet fuel money). I think this new policy sucks. Two bags was even hard for me to pack my belongings. Now ONE bag! Yikes, how am I going to travel these days. First, the blanket and pillows are removed, then they do not serve food anymore, now Just ONE luggage? What is NEXT?
- It is their airline and they can do what they want. So, it is not unfair. I would not use them myself, because I think that is just bad business practice.
- It is not fair for passenger to pay for a second luggage. But i think passenger with more luggages should pay more.
- Untied was the WORLDS crappiest airline before they pulled this crap. I hope United goes out of business. They just suck from the front counter at the airport all the way to the counter at the next airport. Fly with someone else whenever possible.
- afew airlines in the uk have started charging for the first bag so dont temp fate by shouting to loud
- If you are checking more than one bag, you seriously need to re-evaluate your packing system.
