Couch and bed on hire purchase finance. Not paying back what is owed.?

Partner has cancelled direct debits and will not pay anything towards what she is owed. Can finance companies come and take couch and bed away from us or would this only happen with say, a car?

  1. They aren't interested in getting the goods back (Which are now second hand) They will chase you for the money owed, usually by passing the debt on to a debt recovery agency. They will not let it go so you are better off paying what you owe to avoid any legal fees.
  2. they are classed as "SOFT GOODS" A LEGAL TERMINATION AND THEY CANNOT BE REPOSSESSED under any circumstances edit to angel "soft goods cannot be" by law you cannot remove goods that are required to for you to live a normal everyday existence a bed a sofa, these type of goods along with any tools of the trade you work in cannot be removed by bailiffs under any circumstances even a car you own that is used for your work cannot be taken if you go bankrupt.
  3. .Any thing of HP can be reclaimed if not paid for.
  4. The bailiffes can take your furniture but not the bed.
  5. finance companies get warrants and bailiffs to collect what they are owed. they generally take goods they can sell and get there money back on. that is to say they don't care about what you had from them as it may not now be worth as much on the second hand market as you owe. basically they will take as much as they can pay back your creditors and give you back the difference...not a good road to go down as they sell your valuable stuff at rock bottom prices.... if you are not the one who took out the credit you have no worries though!
