How To Finance Graduate School Knowledge Base

Should I go to graduate school for Finance or go to work? Im stuck between going to grad school or going to work as soon as I graduate. I am currently pursuing a degree in Finance and I am quite good at it (I think) and find it interesting. I am more interested in the stock part of finance. I want to be a research analyst (research companies to see if they are good investments) and one day possibly run my own mutual fund. I am absolutely fiscinated with Peter Lynch and his writings. He said the things they teach in graduate school will put you to a big disadvantage when picking stocks and he had to try to forget almost everything they taught him. To be honest, I completely agree with him! Also, for those who don't know who Peter Lynch is, he was one of the most sucessful mutual fund managers ever (made over 2700% in his fund). What do you guys think I should do?
Do you know of any celebrities that would be willing to finance my graduate school education? I know that sometimes Oprah or other celebs like to take on "charity cases", and I was wondering if any of you knew of other celebs that might be willing to "sponsor" my graduate school education. I cannot take out any student loans, and I do not qualify for Pell grants or TAP grants. Serious answers only please!!

How can I finance my graduate degree? I'm currently an undergrad interested in earning an MA in Creative Writing. The school that I am interested in attending awards merit based scholarships, but they are very difficult to obtain.
How good an MBA from London School of Business & Finance(LSBF-GRENOBLE)is? (Not London Business school? Is it harder to find financing for graduate school than undergrad? I am a 37 year old woman who will need money for tuition and books for a graduate program at a private school. I think it will be about $35,000 to 40,000 for the entire program. The degree is in counseling. I really want to find some grants to help offset the costs. I am married and am a mother to one young child. any tips will help!
Seeking info on Graduate school Grants? I'm trying to assist my niece with financing for graduate school. She's seeking a Masters Degree in Education, but will need some financial assistance. Anyone know where we can info about grants for graduate school? I've seen them for medical, law, dentist, but have yet to come across good information for what she needs. I realize there are plenty of financial "loans" available, but we're more interested in the grant aspect. Thanks.
what are some of the jobs you can look for after you graduate from school if you studied finance? i'm gonna be a college student next year, and i'm trying to choose my major, finance is in my list, can anyone tell the job related to finance? especially in stock marketing.
How does graduate school differ from undergrad? Is it a lot harder? Is the type of work/thinking/testing different? I'm an undergraduate student double majoring in Finance and Accounting and I'm planning on going back to school for an MBA/MS Taxation. The only problem is I don't know what to expect. I have decent grades, but I'll be working full time when attending grad school... and studying for the CPA exam too. Can someone with experience tell me what to expect? **Oh, I got a 650 on the Princeton Review's pre-GMAT test. (In case that may give you an idea of how much I would have to put into my studies) I'm planning on attending the University of Pittsburgh's business school.

Will the government pay for graduate school? I am currently a government employee looking at going to graduate school full-time. However, I wish to have my employer finance my graduate studies (MBA). It seems however, from my research, not a lot of government agencies pay for graduate school, or at least my agency doesn't. Is this more common of private companies or am I looking in the wrong places in the government?
Business and Finance Graduate Looking for Job? I have had a difficult time trying to break into the Finance arena. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Finance from Binghamton University (Top NY State School). I graduated in December 2004 (3.0 GPA). I have managed my personal and my family's portfolios since I was 14. I have invested in Stocks/Stock Options/Mutual Funds, etc. I love researching and watching the stock market moved, and have learned a great deal about the market and the economy. Also since I was 16, I have owned and operated my own small computer repair business. I have taught people how to use software, as well as build cutomized computers and fix any hardware or software problem. Through my own business I have learned communication skills (written and oral), and also how to interact with customers and people. i am very responsible, detail oriented, analytical, and I know how to manage my time. I will add in the next writing. I am out of room.

Switching to med school as a finance major? I am wondering how hard it would be to try to go to med school if I have graduated as a Fiannce major with a 3.2. I am 24 and I am making a decsion on either trying for law school or do my pre recs. for med school and take a crack at that. I am not 100% sure what I want to do it will be either of those If I can get into somethiong decent. My question is, is it possible to try to go to med school while being a graduate of Finance and is it worth doining all the work? I am still trying to find the right path any guidance would be appreciated. Thanl you all for the responses. I am still in that rut of figuring out all I want to do. At least for law school I am aiming for a second tier which is nationally recognized for the law that I would study. For med school I know it s huge up hill battle, there is small univeristy that offers all the prereq's as a specilazed program so if I do go down those lines I would most likely do that program. I am just curious whether if I do well in my med school prereq's I can use that GPA as the bases for getting me into med school or not??
Graduate school and undergraduate degree differences? I will be graduating in May with my undergraduate degree in Finance. I am considering applying to graduate school to obtain a master's in education. Is this even possible? Do you have to have a B.A. in education to have a master's in education too?
HELP! Can I still get into graduate school? I will be graduating this fall with my B.S. in international finance. My GPA is 2.5. I know, it is the worst. I still want to go to graduate school though. I do not want to go to the best school but I also do not want to end up in a weak school either. I was actually considering University of Arizona. Anyways, I am 22 yrs old. I do not want to make up an excuse for my GPA but I did work full time throughout my entire Bachelors career while also going to school full time. I already have 3 years of experience working for a major bank as a loan officer. I know that is something many recent undergrades lack. What do you guys think?? What can I do to get in? How do you see my situation?
Likelihood of getting into graduate school? I'm attending CSUB, a local CA state university, double concentrating on Accounting & Finance. My current gpa is 3.88 and my GMAT score is 570. I plan to retake the GMAT after some tutoring. I have completed a summer internship program from a local accounting firm and will work part time during tax season. I am vice president of the university's accounting association and a member of the financial management association. How difficult would it be to get accepted into graduate schools like UCI, USC, or Pepperdine? Or what's the likelihood? Could someone from a crappy school get into a great school? I couldn't go to the school of my choice because of parents/family constraints. Is there hope?
Can I go to graduate school and get my MBA without work experience? I will be graduating this May from Marquette University double majoring in Finance and Entrepreneurship. I have a 3.6 cumulative GPA and scored a 700 on my GMAT. I have also worked as a resident assistant for 2 years and interned at Northwestern Mutual last summer. However, every school I look at seems to have the average student work four years or so before obtaining his or her MBA. Can I still get in without the work experience? How can I increase my odds? Thanks for your help!
do graduate schools look at your high school GPA? do they? I happened to have a not-so-stellar ~ 2.8 GPA in high school because I didn't like the situation and thus didn't care too much about it. I did get something like 96-99th percentile ACT/SAT scores back then because I knew that I had high intellectual ability/IQ, I just wasn't using it for my high school work. Now I'm about to finish my honors summa cum laude business finance BA degree with all my pre-med pre-reqs (since I wanna be an MD and then get my MBA) with at a college that's tons better than than the one I started off at (thanks to a transfer). i was able to get impressive scores on the GRE for my BA and MCAT for my pre-med/med school aspirations. anyway, when applying for med school and then later business school, will those graduate colleges care about the fact that i didn't do too stellar in high school? (i actually failed a couple courses back in high school :( )
columbia university graduate school Acceptance? I will graduate for my bachelor of science degree in about a year. I want to gain work experience in my field, which is business finance. What are the qualifications. I have decent grades from a decent school.. Will the school look at my academic record or my professional work experience as a deciding factor to get accepted?
Are there programs to help psychology/education students pay for graduate school? I plan to become a guidance counselor, but I intend to do a graduate psychology program (either counseling or educational psychology). Are there any programs that will help pay for my schooling like there are for students in the nursing and finance fields? Or are there any jobs I can get straight out of college that will give incentives or help pay for my graduate-level work? I know of volunteer programs and others like Teach for America that offer loan forgiveness and will cover a certain amount of your loan costs, but are there ones specifically for people in the education field? All help will be greatly appreciated.
How can I get into Harvard Business School despite mediocre undergraduate grades? My dream is to obtain an M.B.A from Harvard. Unfortunately, I am set to graduate with about a 3.3 or 3.4 GPA. Primarily because I needed to work full-time (financial reasons). I did however, accomplish great things. I have an immense understanding of Finance at my age. I obtained a series 7/63 license at age 20. I've worked at two different brokerage firms and have strived to start a meaningful organization (for profit.) I also take pride in my writing skills, etc. What should I do from now until I apply for graduate school? I already know the obvious: score high on the GMAT and build an amazing resume. Any other tips? By the way, I graduated high school with a 2.7 GPA. I thought I was the ruler of the world and decided to stay home and trade my brokerage account during school hours every other day. Stupid? Yes. At least I stayed drug free! =] Anyways, tips please! Oh, and I was ranked #6 in the CNBC million dollar challenge about two days ago! 130% return on my investment. I figure I'll need the money to pay for HBS. I'm also Hispanic (Cuban descent).
Hould graduate this year from my current school wiht a degree in HTM or transfer? So basically the story is that I was attending Umass where I was on the soccer team, and going into my senior year while getting a degree in Hospitality Tourism Management (HTM). I basically originally wanted to major in Management or Finance, but since the business school there wouldn’t let me in even with a 3.5 GPA and the fact that I already was a junior I settled on majoring in HTM and right now I’m 9 classes away from graduating on time this year. Anyway, soccer sort of fell through with the coaches this year, and I have the opportunity to transfer into Rutgers at the last minute and I’ve already got accepted into the business school and can major in either Management or Finance and get a degree in business. The thing is I would have to go to school an extra year. So my situation basically is do I go back to Umass where all my friends are, it’s a fun school, and graduate on time with an HTM degree or do I go to Rutgers and get a business degree, but live at home and go to school for an extra year. The thing is I sort of know the smart thing to do is to go to Rutgers and get a better degree that will probably open up more opportunities for me, but at the same time I really want to go back to Umass and be around my friends and finish up after this year. The thing is I know HTM has a reputation for being kind of a joke degree, and I now I have an opportunity where only one more extra year of school may pay off in the long run. Any advice from anyone?

How can I get a career in finance? I graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business from the University of Maryland with a degree in finance and international business. I began a career in sales(real estate) soon after graduation but I know this is not what I want as a career. Every time I look for a finance job, however, I never seem to have enough experience. I am a recent graduate and dont have finance experience besides my school experience. What can I do to change this or where else can I look???? Thanks!!

Financial aid for international student to attend Graduate School? I would like to persue graduate studies in the U.S, however I am finding it difficult to come up with the funds needed to finance my studies. Are there currenlty any loans that are offered to international students (with U.S cosigner) who need fianacing for their studies. Information on loans that I have seen so far indicate that I have to be enrolled in the programme (at least half the time) to get funding. I am in Jamaica
If I study engineering as an undergrad, what are my chances of getting into a Top 10 graduate business school? I am currently a freshman undergrad student majoring in civil engineering and specializing in project management at the University of Maryland. However, I want to get an MBA later on, and obviously would like to go to a good business school. Thus I considered studying for a Finance degree instead (I could probably pull a 3.5 in engineering and 3.9 in finance). Will it be harder for me to get accepted into a top 10 business school without the undergraduate background in business? Or, how hard would it be to get into a good school with just a civil engineering degree?
Need help finding a graduate school? Hello, I am considering trying to get my masters degree. I am indecisive about getting an MBA or a Finance degree. What I am looking for is a university that my have a degree that does a good job of combining the two if such a thing exists. I know you can get an MBA with a concentration in finance but does anyone know of any universities that offer a Masters of Science in Business/Finance. I do not want to become simply a manager but I don't want to be a straight accountant either. What I want is something inbetween. Any ideas?

How do I explore a career in finance--without quitting my current job? Any ideas on how I could gain some experience in investment banking or management consulting before going to law school? I was recently admitted to a top-rated law school. Graduates from this law school often have opportunities to work in areas slightly outside of the law, like investment banking or management consulting. I think I might really be interested in working in one of those fields, but I don't have any experience in those fields directly. I'm even thinking about applying for a joint JD/MBA during my first year of law school, and some additional exposure to those fields would lend my application a little more credibility. On the other hand, I'd prefer to keep my current day job because switching to a new job with less than a year left before law school doesn't seem really practical to me. Suggestions?

Financing medical school? Am graduating from college in 2 years and am wondering what percentage of financial aid DOES NOT pay for medical school expenses. Where do I find information on this? If accepted, I plan to work 15-20 per week. Would this be possible considering the graduate school work load? Thanks.
