How To Finance An Engagement Ring Knowledge Base
How do you finance an engagement ring? How much are you supposed to spend? I've heard 3 months salary, 5 months salary...Also, what is the best way to finance this? I don't think I can come up with 15k in cash....
How do I finance an Engagement Ring? I have a decent down payment, but not enough to pay in Cash.? I have $2000 saved specifically for the ring. I would like to buy a Princess cut diamond set in White Gold. I was planning on a 2 carat stone, but will probably go with 1.98ct or somewhere around there to save money, since it's close enough to 2, and once you hit the 2ct mark, the price jumps significantly.) I want a Verragio Lumino setting, but could take the design to a local jeweler to have it copied, so to speak... I own a home, IRA, 401k, have a safety net of 6-8 months and am set on the path towards retirement, (Not there yet, of course, but the plan is running its course.) This $2k that I have saved is literally set aside specifically for the ring. I have been with my GF for 5 years and we have been living together for over a year now. She's the one and I'm ready to propose. I am looking for creative financing options, other than dealer financing or tossing the loan onto credit cards or HELOCS. Anyone ever taken a part-time job at a jewelry store to save money? I'm 25yrsold

How can I finance an engagement ring if I have bad credit? Maybe I should clarify. My bad credit is a result of my ex wife. When she decided she wanted a divorce, I agreed to settle financial matters without a judge having to do it all for us (big mistake). She hasn't been paying things that were in my name that legally she should have been paying thus the bad credit rating. It was not a result of my irresponsibility.

How can I finance an engagement ring if I have bad credit? I have tried several jewelers such as Zales, Reeds, Kay, etc and so far I've had no luck. Maybe I should clarify. How is an engagement ring financed? When you purchase a home, the home is the collateral, it can be taken away from you and the bank has their money. When you purchase a car, the same is true. But a ring can be hocked the day after you purchase it, is this true? Do you have to have collateral to finance a ring, if say, you are putting 20% -30% down?
How do I get rid of an engagement ring? Was involved in a serious relationship, in which I was engaged. He cheated on me for about a year of the first 4 years that we were together. I toughed it out with him for about a year and a half after knowing of his affair because I was stupid. I have an engagement ring from him, which is still under financing, but it is in both of our names and I don't want the ring, won't wear it, he won't take it back, can't return it, can't afford to pay for it. We have been apart for almost a year now. I have recently become involved in a new relationship and my ex has been sending me text messages with photos of us that say things like "I MISS U." I ultimately, due to the request of my new boyfriend, had sent a reply informing him that I was involved and that he should respect that and not contact me. His response was.... "have your new boyfriend pay for your ring" How do I get rid of the ring without ruining my credit?
What are some ways to pay for an engagement ring, any ideas on how to recover from this.....? I just had my credit ruined, and I am the responsible sibling who helps my brother and sister when they are in need, even though I am the baby of the family. Anyways, I was planning on asking my girlfrined of 4 years to marry me, and have been researching and researching for about 5 months now. I found the ring I want, but am now left with the predicament of having to wait for the banks to figure out my credit history issue, which could take months, and just loaning my bro and sis some large chunks of change that they were in dire need of. I am willing to find an odd job, or something, for a good month, of working my current job 40-50 hours a week, and another job for 40 hours a week if the hours are late night hours, or early early morning hours. Any suggestions on how to make a large chunk of change for an engagement ring to pay it all off and not have to finance, since this is not something that should be put on hold. Love works in crazy ways, I know....

Financing for Engagement Rings? I am looking for a Jeweler to finance an engagement ring for me, In Columbus, Ohio. I don't have a lot of credit and the credit I have student loans are jammed on it so if there are any stores around that would finance a ring I would love to know.
Engagement Ring Help ME PLEASE!!!!!!!? I need to find a Jewelry store that would either finance me a good quality ring without having good credit or little credit, or someplace where I could find a great deal on a diamond engagement ring. I would prefer to have it financed so that way I don't have to save up a lot of money off hand, but Since I am still in my younger years I don't have a lot of credit and the credit I have is packed down with student loans. Help me please. I live in the Columbus, Ohio region.
Girls advice on engagement ring for my girlfriend? http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1%7C10101%7C10001%7C-1%7C161127903%7C15051%7C15051.15057.15105 I've picked out this ring for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I've decided not to give it to her until it's payed for, I think I might finance this for around 3 years, she graduates from college in 2011 but is going to law school afterwords. Anyone have any advice on about how much the payments on this will be? Also, do you think it's pretty? I'm graduating from college next year as a Physical Therapist Assistant so I'll be making roughly $18-$20 per hour, but I'll only have a truck payment as I'm going to live with my mom and dad until she goes to law school then live with her. What are your opinions?? Thanks!!!
Mom offered fiance my Grandmothers Engagement ring...? first off: im not supposed to know this informantion. My mom told my sister to talk to my fiance and ask him if would like to give me my grandmas engagement ring. She said he could take the diamond out and have it re set if he wanted to. He was not planning on getting me an engagement ring right now as we are trying to save money and dont feel that an engagement ring would be a wise use of finances. He feels as though its a 'pity' offer and does not want to accept it. What do you all think about this? Personally, I would love for him to take it and give it to me. Its a beautiful ring and has family history, which means more than a new ring.
Engagement ring? Where is the cheapest country/shop to buy an engagement ring - I'm asking this as my finances aren't too good at the minute
Should I buy my engagement ring online or from a local jewler? I want to buy a certified diamond by either AGS or GIA for an engagement ring. I've been to a few stores and also checked out blue nile online. So, what are some advantages and disadvantages of buying online or buying at a store. I've got the money so financing is of no concern
Engagement ring debate? This was a topic of discussion among a few friends the other night. We have a friend who was divorced and turned her 2.5 carat, high-quality, engagement ring into a right hand ring. She added smaller diamonds and other gemstones and it is beautiful. She has worn it every day since. Now, she is getting close to becoming engaged again. Her new b/f makes considerably less money and could not afford a ring like that. She doesn't want her right hand ring to outshine her engagement ring. Should she retire the right hand ring? Or.... Would it be okay for her to give it to her new fiance to trade in? Would it be improper? They have already merged finances anyway. Or...another suggestion? She doesn't want to sell it because you get so much less than the value. I don't think her b/f would care what she did, but sher wants to "downgrade" or get rid of the right hand ring before the proposal. What do you all think? She was married for over 8 years and divorced for like 3 or 4 years! No unfulfilled promises to consider. The issue is financial and the feelings of the new fiance, plus what is proper or improper. SHE refuses to wear a 18K right hand ring when HE will likely buy a 5K ring. Her words...her feelings, and I think that part is respectful. She would not wear the same diamond, the whole thing would be traded for something new. Lots of great answers though.
Engagement Ring Help? I am going to be getting engaged soon and my girlfriend likes Tacori engagement rings. I do not want to be cheap, but also I want to get a good deal on the ring. Any ideas on where I could get a nice ring ideal price range is up to $4,000? Also any special offers of financing going on now. I know some places will do zero percent interest.
Is there a guideline on the amount you should spend on a engagement ring? In the next 8-12 months, I hope to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I want to get an idea as to how much I should generally spend on the ring. I have heard 3 months salary is the norm. Is that correct? Is that gross or net? Should I put most of the money down and finance the rest or vice versa?
Financing a ring with 0% interest and presenting in 2 weeks? I recently went to Tiffanys and decided on a beautiful modest engagement ring for $1,600. It was the right size, color, setting that I had hoped for and went ahead and had them order it. The options for paying are obviously cash, but also my credit card (trying to avoid that) and Tiffany's financing plan. The sales rep said their plan is 0% interest and from what I can gather from reading the website, you open a charge card which doesn't sound the same as a credit card with them. Their is an application involved as well as a credit check, so perhaps it is more a credit card than I would like to believe. My question is that I want to use the financing option since I would be required to put down ~20% and finance the rest which I can afford as well. Seem like a good idea? Input?
My engagement ring was FREE? Need advice. My BF and I had lived together a year this past VDay when he proposed. My aunt buys estate jewelry & knew we had been looking at rings and sent a nice one to my BF. I had no problem with him getting a deal, but I later found out that she did not tell him a price and he has made no attempt to even offer to pay. It seems to me that it didn't require any sacrifice or commitment on his part to pass a ring on to me. And since giving it to me, he has made no attempt to set a date. When I bring it up, he is very vague and doesn't seem to be in any hurry. I finally asked him outright if she hadn't found this ring, would we even be engaged. He said yes, but he didn't know when because of his finances. I mentioned that financing is usually what most people do. He has never given me any jewerly other than a ring someone found in a bar that he had sized to give to another girl and didn't. He knew how mad I was when I found out the history, yet he gives me another free ring.
Should I be purchasing my own engagement ring? My fiance and I recently got engaged. He asked me yesturday at the mall while at a jewelry store if I would purchase the ring myself using one of my credit cards and then when the bill arrives he will make payments. He says he really wants me to have a ring but he can't get financed or a loan and does not have enough money to pay the amount in full. I didn't agree to do it so I have no ring. I feel like the guy should be buying it. What do you think?
Where should we buy a good engagement ring? I know that you lose quality by going to mall jewelry stores... however, we visited a few private jewelers and we really couldn't find anything that we liked at the price range we're looking at (~$2000). I'm not into anything big and fancy and honestly, I just want a pretty looking ring. I don't care about having the best diamond out there so long as it's not COMPLETELY, obviously crappy. I don't want to spend 2 grand on tiny stones either... no matter how "spectacular" and "brilliant" they are. My dad got spent a ton on a tiny diamond pendant for my mom and it didn't even look like it was worth it, though supposedly it's got fantastic brilliance and clarity. It looks tiny. Mall stores offer good financing deals, I've been seeing... like no interest for 12 months. Do private places offer any kind of financing? We're not rich, but we're not dirt poor either. I'd rather put money away for a wedding, a future house and vacations than on a diamond ring... $2000 is fine with me.
Did you fiance` have the money to buy your engagement ring? Did he finance it or just pay for it straight up? For instance, did he get a zales card and pay it off through a credit card or did he have all the money to pay for it at once? If it was an expensive ring....like over 1500. What would you do?
I know my boyfriend is going to propose....but I dont care about the ring? I overheard him tell his friend that he was going to propose to me but he is waiting until he can afford to buy me an engagement ring (we split our finances and are having some money problems right now) The only thing that matters to me is that we get married and spend our lives together not what size diamond is on my finger! How do I hint to him that he could propose with a piece of string and it would make no difference?
Credit Question...? My fiance and I purchased a home a year and 6 months ago. We had some major dings in our credit but for two years straight we have been current on everything from cars, mortgage to credit cards. We tried financing an engagement ring and we were denied. We don't understand, how this happened when we have been clean and current. Can anyone relate, or suggest what the problem may have been, how we can help our situation or where can we go that has options for people with credit issues.
What is the prefect size gemstone for a 3 prong style ring? (3stones together)? Hey, My finance and I are trying to figure out what is the best size for a gemstone, sapphire that will be on my engagement ring. We both like the prong style, but we don't know how big of a stone. Now im not greedy, so i don't want something huge. But i really dont want something small. What is a good inbetween that is a reasonable price. Either give the size or karat. Thanks Pictures of stones in the ring from a website would be helpful
Engagement rings? We have been ring shopping and found the one I want but the only problem is that we can not get financed. He has okay credit because he has two credit cards. we don't have the extra cash to pay for it outright, and we don't want the layaway option. Are there any places where they let you do payment options while still being able to take home the ring? Ring is only $1100. This is my second marriage so there is not going to be a big and expensive wedding, reception, or honeymoon.
how can I get everyone to stop nagging us? My boyfriend and I plan on getting engaged and then married sometime in the near future, but we're trying to get our stuff together(school, insurance, finances, etc.). Everyone we're close to keeps nagging us about when we're gonna get engaged(by everyone I mean his parents and my parents, our siblings, friends, EVERYONE!!!!). His mom even went so far as to look up engagement rings online, without telling him(he caught her doing it), and my mom even went as far as pulling her veil out of storage to see if I'd like it. There's so much that we have to get together before we could get engaged, we're ready to get married, we are just too broke to actually get married. I've told my family, friends, etc., to stop bothering me about it, that it will happen when it happens, and he's done the same thing, but they still bother us about it. What can we say or do to get them to stop nagging us? Is there anything we can do, is there a solution at all?

Reeds Jewelers - Store Financing? Has anyone purchased something from Reeds Jewelers (or other major jeweler) and used the in-store financing option? My friend wants to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend; he makes a large salary but has bad credit. Will they give you in-store financing with bad credit?
