How To Manage Finances Knowledge Base
How do you manage your finances? Me and my hubby have 2 accounts and both are joint accounts. His salary account can not be a joint account (as per his office) and hence I am not part of it. Still we both have the ATM cards. He hardly knows the balances in the accounts, including his account and I only maintain the accounts right from the day of marriage. But all my friends say that I should not look into his accounts, while he is not looking in to my expences. It is not a good practice!!!! I am confused. I told this to my hubby and he says, its a good joke and just laughed out. He does not care. I just wana know how every one manages their finances. A separate salary account is his office regulation. But evey pay slip comes to me the day he receives it and to be frank, he hardly knows the money movement of his account also. I manage all, including his credit card and payslips. He totally beleives me and me too, because till date I have never missed a single dollar that he has spent with out informing me. His office has a thrift bank and the salary issued through this account. In such case only an employee can be a member so such bank and hence it's and individual account. I know it fully and there is no issue related to this.
How to manage finances quickly and efficiently? My husband and I are recently married and he has always been the "I'll use my debit card" kind of guy. I don't mind that but it's even for little purhcases like $3 at Arby's. He doesn't keep reciepts and just checks the atm for his account balance. How can I get this in order, how do I know where we're beginning from to balance a check book and start keeping track of things when there's constantly old stuff finally coming through and new purchases showing on the balance? Also is there a software download to help keep track of checking and savings accounts? We have one joint checking and 3 savings in our names and 3 savings (one for each child). And how would you suggest keeping track of what bill is due and actualy remember to save the money for it? It was never a problem for me when I was single but now that we have more bills and TWO people to keep track of, it's much harder for me. He wants nothing to do with figuring it all out, he'll HELP me but won't DO it.

Would moms be interested in taking courses on how to manage the finances in your home? As a business exec for a large company and now a stay-at-home mom, I am finding that the same principles of running a business apply to running your home (I actually ahve time now to sort out the best insurance rates, look into investment properties, get the best credit-cards to actually make you money, and cut our household expenses, etc...) A friend said i should start a course to help other SAH moms run their homes -- but would moms really be interested in this kind of thing? thx

Gift for mom to help manage finances!? I want to get a gift for my mom to help her manage her finances! She is 55 years old and is going through a rough divorce. She was used to having everything done for her, so she is completely clueless on "budgeting." She is very stubborn and stuck in her ways, but I want to make sure she manages her money, so she doesn't end up broke by retirement. She doesn't work and she doesn't plan on working, like I said she is very stubborn. I was thinking of getting some kind of gift for her to help her. I was thinking maybe Quicken software? I figured I would have to set it all up for her since she isn't very computer savy. Any ideas for a gift that will help her manage her finances? Something VERY easy to use.
Is there a way to use the computer to manage finances? I would like to eliminate using my checkbook register and start keeping track of my finances on my home computer. Are there any programs that will add and subtract deposits and withdrawls for me? Like where I can start by what is in my checkbook and just like writing it down in my register log I do it all on the computer instead. I have Microsoft Office 2007 but Im not sure on how to use any of the programs yet. If you could suggest one to that would help. Thanks in advance.

Help! Does anyone with money know who I could work with to help manage finances (maybe an accountant?)? This probably sounds weird but I cannot seem to say no to my husband and he spends everything he has and comes back for more and more money. Neither of us has to work any more but the majority of our money comes in spurts from real estate investments. As everyone knows, the market is pretty soft this year and we need to be much more careful. We can spend about 30K a month but, he always outspends it. Trying to get him to budget is useless. I am afraid I can't keep up with it and I finally realize that I can't say no to him no matter how hard I try. It is gong to ruin us. So I want to take the responsibility out of my hands and I just wish that I could. I know it sounds immature. I just need to protect myself from my own self and my lovable but overindulged husband. I am sure there are people who would gladly steal our money, I just need some good advise on whether there are options? Do accountants do this kind of thing?

Please help me manage my finances!? I am a college student, I only have to pay for books and supplies but not tuition. I have $8000 of debt for my car, and $2000 in debt to my credit cards. I work at a job where I get paid about $1200 a month, and my expenses are about $800 a month. how to i make that extra $400 work for me, to pay off debt, and get started on some life-savings? Im interested in anything--you suggest it, I'll consider it. Im open to selling my beat-up car, and getting a bus pass; im open to investing, though i dont know how; anything else? what do you recommend? I'd really like to be debt free, and financially wise! please help!
What are some good ways to better manage my finances? I just got a new job, which comes with increased income. I want to use this as an opportunity to really understand where my money goes. I'm not bad with my finances but I'm not excellent either. I don't have much debt other than student loans (no credit cards, or high interest loans, etc.) I don't pay bills late, I have a good credit score and I don't live pay check to pay check. But I also can be pretty lax about tracking my checkbook and expenses. I would really like to increase the amount of savings I put away and pay extra to my student loans. I really feel I'm not going to have a true understanding of my financial picture until I put it all in black and white, so I'm making a commitment to myself to keep better track of it. I've set up some spreadsheets to track my expenses, a budget and my checkbook, but I'm not sure that is enough. Anyone have any tips to help keep me on track or common pitfalls to avoid?
What computer software would best help me to manage the finances of my very small business? I run a private counseling practice, so I don't have any inventory or employees to manage. I don't even need to send invoices most of the time. I operate the business as a sole propriator, and I include the business income on my personal tax returns. I just need to keep track of my income and expenses and plan my taxes. What software would be best for this? The software also needs to be affordable. I have thought to use Quickbooks, or maybe Quicken since my business is very simple. But if I chose Quicken, which version would be best? Or would another program be better?
