How To Finance College Knowledge Base
How do I finance college with a family to support? I know there are options to help single moms, single dads, singles, military personel etc, but how do I finance college when I have a reasonable income but the expenses of a family to pay for (daycare, mortgage, health, transportation, education etc) When I have tried in the past to get loans or scolarships it seems my income is the only thing that is taken into account which is modest at best. There simply isn't much left over at the end of the month and that's not including if I'll make less because I'm in college. There has to be a way that I'm just ignorant of and I would welcome any thoughts. Blessings, Maria

How can a college Finance/Accounting major get ahead? Well, I just finished my freshmen year and I had a great internship this summer at a top wealth management company. However, for next sumer, I really want to study abroad and I was wondering if an internship in a lesser known company in the finance field would hurt if I were to maybe intern abroad in another country. As far as other things I can do, any ideas? Thanks a lot.
How can I finance my college education? I am a community college graduate whose father financed my entire three years (I kept switching majors) at a community college. Now, I wish to transfer to South University (a private university). Where can I find the money to finance my final years? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
What is the best career path for someone in finance after college.? I see alot of finance job with edward jones and smith barney and such. Most of these companies have jobs available but most of them require 5 years of experience. What type of jobs should I look for after college to get this experience and still make good money. Ill be getting a bachelors and then an MBA depending on how things go after college.
How can I finance a college education? I am currently on my 2nd year at a local college. I commute to school and live at home so it does save money. But for my next two years, I would like to finish at a larger university. This will be more expensive, however, considering the fact that these schools are farther away and would require expenses for housing. I am not in a position with a lot of money and I would like to know if there are any ways that I can get loans and aid to cover the whole expenses? If so, how? I know about scholarships, and grants. BUT CAN LOANS COVER THE WHOLE TUITION?
Any suggestions on how to finance my college education? I'm aware of Pell grants. I think they cap it off at around $4,700 a year. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to cover the rest of my college tution, books, lab fees, room, board, transportation, etc.? My parents never saved a dime for my education. I plan to pursue a major in Criminology or Sociology. I'd like to kep all of my options open for the future, so I'm kind of trying to steer clear of government loans...not government grants, but government loans. Specifically because if I were ever to apply for a government position in the future, I could not have any outstanding government loans. If you guys could kick me down a couple good ideas, nothing that would jeopardize my integrity or leave me in anything less than great moral standing please. I appreciate it! Haha. Thanks to the first answerer...but I'm asking for specific jobs, perhaps a business venture, etc.
How can I finance my college education with poor credit & no co-signer? I'm trying to get into Monterrey Institute of International Studies's Translating/Interpreting program. Their tuition is like $40,000/yr., & I only make $7,800 or less because I receive SSI & Social Security. I can't get anyone to co-sign with me. I only get $5500 max. for federal loans.
Financing college for Math Teacher? I currently am en route to become a Math teacher, and I am trying to figure out how to finance a way through college. College Finance Class Help Needed...Dealing with Interest and Rate of Return? I have a few questions I am having a hard time with, so maybe someone can help. (1) You invest $750 every 6 months for 10 years at 8% compounded semi-annually, what is the value after 10 years? (2) I have a multi-part question stating that you have one stock returning X%, one returning Y%, and one returning Z% with the question being what is the expected return of your portfolio? Would I add all of the % together and get the average? (3) There is a 20% chance we will get a 16% return, a 30% chance we get a 14% return, a 40% chance of getting a 12% return, and a 10% chance of an 8% return. What is the expected rate of return? If you provide an answer, great, but could you please tell me how you got it? I need to be able to do it for my final and I need to be able to understand what I am doing. My book is just rather confusing. Thank you! I answered the last 2 questions, still have the $750 twice a year compounded semi to answer...but here are a few others throwing me off. (1) Generally, what is the most important financial statement in judging the economic well-being of a firm? (2) Accounts Receivable turnover of 8, annual credit sales of $362,000, what is the average collection period (360-day year)? (3) How do I figure the "Net Profit Margin" , "Total Asset Turnover", and "Return on Equity" if I have numbers for: sales, net income, total assets, and total debt? (4) EVA attempts to measure economic profit. Economic profit would be considered earnings growth, profit margins, or return on equity.
What are some ways to finance college completely on your own? My parents, who combined make about $120,000 annually, suddenly decided to stop paying for my college education. This means I don't qualify for any need-based financial aid, so I didn't bother filling out a FAFSA this year. I go to UCLA (and currently commute there), so I pay about $2500 for tuition, $200 for books, $200 for parking, and maybe $500 for gas a quarter, not including miscellaneous expenses. I really wanted a double major in biology and geology, but I can see that dream crushed, as I don't have enough money to pay for the extra units. Is there some way that I can loan out enough money to keep me going for the next three years? Is it a good idea to become a part-time student and work like crazy to pay off my loans? I'm so lost and confused. This problem keeps me awake at night. Thanks for any and all replies.
Is majoring in finance in college still a good choice? I'm a freshman in college, hoping to go into finance & math. I've been told by certain people that, with this economic recession, perhaps I should consider changing majors. Others still say that in 4 years the economy will be well back on its way again. I'm just not sure if finance still has a promising future. I'm wondering what people think. Will the economy fully recover to the way it was before anytime soon? Any suggestions? I'm also thinking of actuarial sciences. But it's a tough field...
What is a good SUNY College, which offers Finance major? I’m currently in a State University of New York College. I’m planning to transfer out into another college. I need to figure out what college to go. My major is finances (Business). I do not want to graduate and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance; however I would like to have a Bachelor of Business Administration of Finance.
What are some creative, yet realistic ways to finance a college education? I recently started a family and, as a result, had to postpone my college education. However, by having a young family, I have found that the financial flexibility I once had is now gone. So, I seem to be in a quandry. Being a self-described academic hasn't yet seemed to provide me with an abundance of choices from which I can choose, so I now ask you...
How much would a bachelor degree in finance cost at a comunity college? I am planning to get a bachelor degree in finance and i would like to go to an online college like AIU; they said that it would last about 4 years (associate+bachelor) and that i would have to get an associate first that would cost about $21k + $30k for the bachelor=$51k. Is that a good investment or should i go to a community college? I live in the Saginaw-Detroit area. The bachelor would cost
College finance question. Need help thanks.? Can anyone give me an idea of how much money in the form of financial loans is available to students relative to the amount that must be paid up front-the "expected family contribution"? I know it depends on the amount of money the family has but I just need to get a ballpark idea. Is it 20 family 80 percent loan? Is it 50/50? I'm filling out the FAFSA now but I need an idea before then.... My wife and make around 150,000. Not much in savings. thanks.
How should college be paid for when you have a couple that has split up and 1 child that will attend .? I have an 11 yr old child, her dad and I have been split since she was little and recently he has come back in her life - he has always maintained phone contact. Instead of child support, cause I have been able to support her, I wanted him to pay 100% of her college - because that I cannot swing. Do you think that is a fair set up? I have been in another relationship for about 5 yrs now and we have 2 little ones together and now my boyfriend is letting me know he does not agree with the scenerio - I do see his point as well. I was never trying to make it easier for dad # 1, I was just thankful he was taking the burden of financing college off me for her.. Now dad #2 says perhaps he should just stop supporting his kids and he will pay for their college - mind you I live with dad # 2 - definately in a mess since dad #1 came back around but I thought I was still looking out for kids - granted I should have something a bit more concerte from dad #1 as far as finances - I need guidance
What do you learn when you study finance in college? Sounds stupid I know, but do you learn about stock trading? Or the market, or fundamental analysis? Whats it that you learn and will I definatly be a better/succesful stock market investor if I have a degree as opposed to study books and the market on my own?
I graduated from college with finance degree in May. Its Sept now, I still cannot find a job. NEED HELP? I have done everything I can think of, attend career fairs, read "knockem dead job search 2007" ( books ), reworked my resume, network and attend nation conventions. I graduated in may 2007 with a finance degree, all the employers I contacted turned me down, saying my resume is notable, but no jobs at this time. I am running out of money quickly and live by myself. If I dont get a job soon, it will be a bad situation. I got loans from college coming up in by the end of december, pay for my own life/health insurance, car. I need detail answers on what steps I should do to help myself get a career in finance to have a good life style. Is the finance job market out there terrible? Are other finance majors having the same problem as me?

How do you finance a private college education? I'm a senior in high school (class of 2008) who plans on majoring in engineering (biomedical or chemical)... I have fell in love with two private colleges with price tags of about $50,000 a year, but my state's university cost is about $15,000 a year. I would perfer to go to a private college because of the small class sizes, more attention, better facilities, and better professors. The thing is that my family is middle class and we wouldn't qualify for much, if any, financial aid, and therefore would not in any way be able to afford that $50,000 a year. Anyone have any suguestions on how to find good scholarships or how to mazimize my financial aid? I have a 93 average, CR+M SAT 1420, and CR+M+W SAT 2040. I am also taking all AP and Honors classes and as I said I'm interested in Chemical or Biomedical Engineering... any opinions about possible colleges would also be appreciated!
What are the chances I, as a college student, will be able to successfully finance a new car? Hi guys, I'm a full time second-year college student with a part time paid internship on the side in which I get paid slightly under 500 dollars a month. I have about 2000 saved up in the bank and was looking at a new car that runs about 15-16k. I know nothing about how financing a car works other than the simple down payment + monthly payments (with interest). I'm wondering if it's possible for me at all to finance a car like this and what the application process is. Thanks a lot!! I'm also not sure what my credit is at all, other than I always pay all 3 of my credit cards on time. I also have zero expenses as I commute to my university. Does this change anything?
Does the college you go to matter for a finance major? I want to go to school for finance but I also want to go to West Chester University. (It is the cheapest and closest to home). The problem is that it is not well known for it's business school and are more known for it's education degree. I have heard that overall it is a good school but it's business school is only "okay". My question is, does the college that you go to matter? Should I be going to a school that focuses more on business or will I be fine going to WCU?

I have two years left in med school from the early 80s. I am afraid to lose my mortgage and everything that I have worked for to provide for my family. empty nester going back to college...how to finance it? My daughter has a few years left of high school and I now have time to pursue a college degree. I don't have many credits that will transfer so I am essentially starting from scratch. I don't have much money at all..basically none extra. I am recently remarried but my husband is also struggling with his business. How can I finance this? What are hot areas right now? Anyone know of any decent jobs that usually only require a 2 year degree? Please, please nobody say "follow your heart" or any 14 year old girl saying. No offense but I need knowledgeable and practical advice or ideas. Not dreamy ones.
How can I finance and finish college? Its taken me over 4 years to get my AA degree from a community college while working bunch of dead end jobs. All this also resulted in my credit getting messed up over time and even though I have a pretty good GPA, I also have a good number of W's. I should also say I am completely self reliant. Meaning I need to pay for all my expenses, including rent. My parents are getting old, so their help is out of the question. I really want to go to a University but I just don't know how since its so difficult just to survive. I need to work full time to support myself. Not to mention its hard having any type of social life without money. I feel very stuck. I am considering enlisting in the military for the GI Bill too but at 25 I don't know if thats such a good idea anymore. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I just checked, my GPA is actually 3.01 (not as good as I thought)
Business/Finance Major in College? Hey, um i do real well in high scool and i was thinking about majoring in finance in college. However the other day i heard my teacher talking to another friend of mine who does just as well as me and the teacher said to not concentrate on business because its to "easy" and to put your smarts to something else that you like. I was a little skeptical, but i was just wondering wether or not this was a common idea with other people? Thanks for the advice if you can.
Smart books on finance for college aged people? I'm 23, in college, plan to graduate spring of '09 and I'm finding it more and more important to become smart with money before I've graduated. For one, whether I get a job in my field (Biology) or start off with a simple job for money, I want to be able to live on my own. A short time living with my parents afterwards wouldn't kill me but I feel they've done enough for me and I want to be as self reliant as possible. Also, I want to be at least a little savvy with investing. I want to be able to take some of the money I earn and in whatever way, make more with it. I don't expect huge returns but I want to start saving for a home for in the future, as well as other financial hurdles. There's so many books on investing/finance are there any people have used that they found useful/easy to understand for a person in their 20s?
Need to Finance College? I am 27 with 2 kids who are 4 and 5. I have 51 credits and I plan to return to college in Aug, My credit is shot as I have 5,000 in medical bills. I have no cosinger and my husband and i make just enough to cover bills. He is a vet are there any programs to help us out. i live in AK Thanks
Are there any other options for me to finance college? I'm a senior in high school and I'm applying to colleges for next year. My top choice (my few top choices, actually) are a little over $40,000 a year. My parents can really only afford to send me somewhere thats $25000- 30000 a year. We don't have enough to pay for the school I want to go to, yet our income is too high to recieve need-based financial aid. After meeting with a financial planner, my parents also said I wouldn't be able to get any low-interest student loans and the ones I do get will have to be paid back while im still in school as opposed to after I graduate. Do I have any other options or will I have to go to a lower-cost school?
East or West Coast for college student studying finance? My major is finance and I would like to gain as much oppurtunity as possible. I would like to live in a big city, I dont know where to apply to college, because my list consists of schools in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Miami. Out of those I prefer New York and LA. I've never been to the west coast. I am from PA and have been to NYC many times and love it. But I would also like the beach and southern California looks beautiful. I am going out there in a few months... visiting Las Vegas and Los Angeles. But I will be applying to colleges before that so I would like to know what would be best for me. I know that LA and NYC benefits the wealthy, which I do not fall into. Will it be hard for me to live as a college student? I plan on living in a dorm in college. In conclusion, I would like to know where would be the best place for me with a lot of things to do and business oppurtunity as well as a good education.

Was going to major in finance but I figured that since foreign countries are becoming so involved in the economy that I might as well go into international business. Problem is I want to specialize in finance. So my choice major right now would be international finance. Know of any good schools that have this?
